Even though the candy kits are for ages 8 and up (because you have to use the stove or microwave to melt the chicle), I recruited my 4 and 5 year olds to help me with this project. We had a lot of sticky fun! The kit comes with a little story about ‘Eduardo the Chiclero’, a boy collects chicle from trees. We read that and then got to work! I’d say the entire process took about 1/2 hour (mostly because I decided to heat the chicle on the stove rather than in the microwave). The gum came out pretty good and the kids are obsessed with it (I’ve been dishing out pieces of it as ‘rewards’ for the past couple of days). To give you brand name comparisions, it looks like Juicy Fruit and the Cinnamon tastes like Big Red!
PS–I also received samples of Glee Gum and it is fun! Glee Gum is a lot like Chicklets (little hard squares with a hard outer shell) but they are better because they come in a TON of flavors! Click here to see the selection.
